Provide Scholarships for Students in Need
The Appalachian Reading Center, Inc. offers partial scholarships to enrolled students who demonstrate both financial and academic need.
Funding for partial scholarships comes from many sources including private donors, The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, The Beckley Area Foundation, The WV Development Office (Neighborhood Investment Program), The Milan Puskar Foundation, Parkersburg Area Community Foundation and The CC Dickinson Family Giving Circle.
Your tax-deductible gift to The Appalachian Reading Center, Inc. provides scholarships to students in need. You can make a secure online donation to The Appalachian Reading Center, Inc. through Network for Good.
If you prefer to mail us a donation, please make your check payable to "The Appalachian Reading Center, Inc." and mail it to 429 3rd Ave, South Charleston, WV 25303.
Neighborhood Investment Program (NIP) tax credits are sometimes available for qualifying donations. Please contact us for more information.

The Appalachian Reading Center, Inc. accepts applications on an on-going basis for part-time tutors. We are looking for friendly people with a background in education. Job Description
Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate area of study.

Knowledge of Orton-Gillingham approach is essential.

Complete Appalachian Reading Center pre-service training program and participate in ongoing professional development activities.
Duties/Responsibilities:
-
Tutor children and/or adults with language-based reading problems (e.g., dyslexia, etc.) by following the instructor manual and carrying out systematic instructions.

Prepare and execute engaging, individualized lesson plans at appropriate student levels.

Maintain excellent student progress records and complete periodic reports.
-
Demonstrate professionalism in interactions with fellow staff, students, parents, and administrators.

Show proficiency using Zoom.
