The Appalachian Reading Center, Inc. accepts applications on an on-going basis for part-time tutors.  We are looking for friendly people with a background in education.  We provide extensive training and support to our tutors.  Please call us at 304/744-8188 if you are interested in applying for a part-time position or submit the online application below.

​Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate area of study preferred.

  • Knowledge or interest in learning about the Orton-Gillingham approach is essential.

  • Complete Appalachian Reading Center pre-service training program and participate in ongoing professional development activities.                                                                                                                                                                                                                    

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Tutor children and/or adults with language-based reading problems (such as dyslexia) by following the instructor manual and carrying out systematic instructions.

  • Prepare and execute engaging, individualized lesson plans at appropriate student levels.

  • Maintain excellent student progress records and complete periodic reports.

  • Demonstrate professionalism in interactions with fellow staff, students, parents, and administrators.
